A twenty-tone lorry has sent two families mourning and five others homeless in Malende, a locality in Muyuka Sub-Division on
This lorry ran over the head and abdominal region of one of the victims leaving his brain and intestines on the ground. The victim, Mava Ernest, a form five student of Government Secondary School (G.S.S) Malende, was crushed to the extent that his relatives were unable to identify his corpse. According to his senior brother, Oundoa Emmanuel, a teacher at the same school, it was only the deceased’s friends who were able to identify him by his shoes as only his legs remained intact. The other parts of his body were so damaged that the corpse had to be buried immediately.
A teacher in G.S.S. Malende has confirmed that Mava Ernest had already registered as a candidate for the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Examination 2009 Ordinary Levels examination. It is also reported that the deceased had just closed school for the Christmas break on the day he , and that the accident took place just opposite their family residence a few metres from the Catholic School Primary Malende.
According to reports, that same lorry had hit another young man about a hundred metres before hitting Mr. Mava, and this first victim died while being rushed to hospital. It would seem the lorry had been involved in an earlier accident that very night, which left five families homeless. For some reason, the driver seems to have lost control of his lorry, and then drove into the buildings and, in panic he tried to escape then knocked down the victims along the road.
The Gendarmerie in Muyuka have impounded the vehicle, which is said to belong to a transport agency based in Kumba that transports.
