USA Renowned Gospel Artist, Don Moen, Shakes Buea

By Moki S Mokondo in Buea for Fako UK/Fako News Centre.

Inhabitants of Buea and its environs last Wednesday trooped the Dorothy Limunga Djeuma Amphitheatre of the University of Buea (UB), to watch US Inspirational Gospel Music Artist, Don Moen.
The Gospel singer who is currently in Cameroon for an amazing gospel tour has a programme to hold concerts at the Limbe Botanic Garden, Douala and Yaounde. He stopped by on Wednesday December 10, 2014, in the university campus to grant a brief press conference. After the press conference, he sent a wave of emotions through the spines of pressmen, students, university and senior state officials, who gave him a standing ovation when he mounted the piano and to sing some of his popular worship songs.

His presence on campus was like salvation has come. Many among those present shed tears while singing with him. His short-stay in the university campus turned into a crowd pulling event. The Amphitheatre was jammed to capacity and some persons mounted ladders on the walls of the Amphitheatre just to see him.
Talking about his coming to Cameroon, Don Moen explained that his tour was planned by one of his organisers, who had a vision that Cameroonians need to praise and worship God. According him, he sees reasons to re-visit the country due to the hospitality of the people.
He was also overwhelmed to receive his portrait from a student of Department of History in the University of Buea, Batemone Nkeng, painted. Mr Nkeng told Fako News Centre that he spent just a night to come out with the portrait. He explained that he only got the news of Don Moen’s coming to Buea through his father who is a fan of Don Moen’s music. According to him, though the time was short for him to produce the piece of arts, his father insisted that he should do the work.
Responding to questions on how he got into gospel music, Pastor Moen maintained that his mother encouraged and motivated him to play the piano. He explained that his mother actually forced him at the beginning and when he developed the talent and interest, he decided that he will use it to worship God. In his own words, Mr. Moen told the population “Be yourself in whatever career you choose because it is the key to longevity.”

The gospel singer was accompanied to the hall by the Vice- Chancellor of the University, Dr. Pauline Lyonga, his wife, producer and other members of his team. When the time finally came for him to leave, the population almost did not let him go. They wanted more of his presence and wished he could pass the whole day with them. Talking to some students, they (students) explained that they think the coming of an anointed gospel musical artist on campus will help clean the bad spirits that have been plaguing the university with several strike actions.
