A popular women’s group in Vasingi-Buea called Blo-Di-Blo has succeeded to organise this year’s edition of a mini marathon for women. The mini marathon that covers a distance of 8 kilometres saw the women run from the Buea Town Wrestling Field to Government School Bova and back. The race that took place on Sunday March 4, 2019, was organised in three categories.

Enanga Elundu won the first category that was for women of age 25 to 45 years and was followed by Awa Claris and Anne Bih respectively. In the third category for athletes aged 45 to 60 year, Joan Namondo came first with Efeti Ngale and Frida Enanga following respectively.

One of the most interesting categories was that for women above 60 years that saw Mbamba Mojoko emerging winner with Lucy Bechem and Susan Enjema as second and third positions respectively. The winners of each category went home smiling with cash prizes worth FCFA 50,000, FCFA 30,000 and FCFA 20,000 respectively. The oldest athlete, Mama Efosi Mwafise also went home with a cash prize of FCFA 15,000 and other ‘dash’ she received from the public.

The race was organised as part of their yearly activities to commemorate the celebration of the International Day of the Woman. The theme for this year’s edition of the race was “A race to benefit the Woman.”

The president of Blo Di Blo, Bridget Namondo, expressed her joy seeing that the race is gaining steam as this year’s event saw the participation of over 200 athletes from surrounding villages. She noted that the race has become more competitive than in previous editions.
