THE MOST TRAGIC DAY FOR THE BAKWERI TRIBE: 16 MEMBERS OF THE WANA WA WONJA CHOIR GROUP DIE IN AN ACCIDENT AT MILE TWO-NINE BETWEEN EKONA AND MUYUKA

There has been total wailing and gnashing of teeth in the town of Buea and surrounding villages this Saturday 19 August, 2017, after a truck crushed a bus transporting members of a Bakweri Choral group to death. The accident that took place at about 5:30am on the Mile two-nine hill situated between Ekona Mbenge and Muyuka left many of the victims mutilated beyond recognition.
Sixteen members of the Molyko-Buea based Choral group called Wana wa Wonja, their driver and the truck driver all died on the spot with only the assistant to the truck driver who survived and is responding to treatment in hospital. CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE.

BAKWERI KIDS' FOLKLORE FESTIVAL, BUEA

Youths around Buea were on Saturday December 24, 2016, engaged in social and cultural activities as part of Christmas celebration. The organiser of the event, Ndumbe Lyonga La Manjinja'a, mobilised the kids and youths for the Mokpwe Kids Folklore Festival that took place at the Buea Town Wrestling Field.

FAKO FOUNDATION LAUNCHES ACTIVITIES IN BUEA

Initial activities for the launching of Fako Foundation have taken place in Buea. Members of the newly created US based foundation presented scholarship certificates to pupils and students they are sponsoring through Salem Baptist Church, Lower Wolifamba (Bolifamba) also called Mile 16. This took place on Sunday December 27, 2015, during a church service.

An alleged yam thief, Sammy Fvale(pronounced fva’a-leh) of Ewonda village in Buea, has fallen into the dragnet of policemen of the First District Police Station, Buea Town. Sammy Fvale is alleged to be one of those people who waits for people to sow, and then he unlawfully harvests, thereby earning a living from other people’s sweat. Successful Bakweri students across Cameroon in the 2011 GCE exams celebrated their results as records were broken in some areas. Some of them made the Bakweri Honours Lists after scoring 16 points or more at the Ordinary level and 11 points or more at the Advanced Level. It was another successful convention held by this community, with some members elected to form a new executive.
