Fako indegenes and its populace would on Saturday 3rd January trunk the Buea Town Green to encourage their favourite athletes in the Fako Traditional Wrestling finals. The finals to pit wrestlers from Fako would bring villages in Buea and Limbe Sub-Divisions, which make up Zones A and B respectively.

The secretary General of the Buea wrestling Zone, Hans Esunge Ndive, has disclosed that both zones are expected to bring at least thirty wrestlers to take part in the finals. According to Mr. Esunge, the executives from the various zones are expected to select male and female wrestlers who emerged champions during the 2008 wrestling season from villages in their zones.

At the end of the competition, prizes would be awarded generally and to individual wrestlers. Generally, the three best villages and the zone that wins the highest number of wrestling bouts would be awarded prizes. The second classification of individual wrestlers has been divided into two categories: the male and female.

The male category is sub-divided into the Seniors and Juniors with respect to their ages, weight and physical strength. Mr. Esunge Ndive explained that the first three wrestlers in each of the above categories would receive prizes. For the female classification, only one category has been identified, and the best three would also receive prizes.

However, the Vice-president of the Buea Wrestling Zone, Abel Mbondi Wotany, has told Fako News Centre that elements of Fako based in the United Kingdom (UK) are sponsors of this great traditional sporting event. To this effect, the President/chairman of Fako Element Cultural Association (FECA) and FAKO UK, Val Ndeley Molulu, has arrived Cameroon ahead of the event to ensure its smooth running.

According to Mola Wotany, members of the organising committee are now holding regular meetings with Mola Ndeley Molulu to brief him on the developments so far. He also claimed that their committee has met with those in the Limbe zone to set up modalities concerning the game and occasion. Mola Wotany disclosed that they are working hard to make sure that Zone three, Muyuka and Zone four, Tiko be part of the event in the next wrestling season.

Responding to Fako News Centre, Mola Ndeley Molulu disclosed that a meeting has been scheduled on Tuesday December 30th for the Buea Zonal executives to present the new trophy to the chief of Wokwaongo (Bokwaongo). Mola Ndeley Molulu maintained that FECA has decided to replace the old trophy with a new one. Since Wokwaongo Wrestlers are the current title holders of the competition, their chief has been given the honour to bring the trophy to the wrestling ground on the day of the finals.

It should be noted that this event is organised under the patronage of the Head of Government, Chief Ephraim Inoni, Prime Minister of the republic of Cameroon.
